I had a great time in Carberry, MB this past weekend at the Blue Hills Fibre Festival. This was my first time attending as it is usually on the same weekend as Olds Fibre Week. I had a booth there which included handspun yarns, Soak wash and items I've knit, crocheted or woven with handspun, as well as my Spinner Starter Kits. I was happy to meet new faces and see others who I've met through other festivals in and around the prairies.
I was also very excited because I was the Wool Judge for their Fleece Show. We had 13 entries in Medium/Down wools, Long wools and Speciality wools. Surprisingly nothing in the fine category. I saw GORGEOUS coloured fleeces from jet black, to grey and soft browns. The first place winners were Shetland/Texel (Speciality), Wensleydale (Long) and a Polypay/Romney cross (Medium/Down).
This is a picture of me with the Grand Champion Fleece with a score of 97% - Wensleydale and the Reserve Champion Fleece with a score of 95.5% - Coloured Cotswold. This Cotswold fleece was the most popular in the auction.
Thank you to Gail and Susan who organized the event, Val for the delicious pies and to everyone who came out! I hope to see you all very soon!
