Hair Sheep |
There are some sheep that don't have wool. These are called hair sheep and they are raised for their meat. Historically they come from tropical regions were wool has little value. They are not sheared but their hair sheds each year which makes them easy to care for.
Normally their hair is short and quite coarse, In my sample the average length is about 4" and there is some very long kemp mixed in. There is no clearly defined crimp.

It's not really spinable but you can use it for blending which creates a hairy or tweed-like texture.
A Use for Everything
A woman from my neighborhood told me her dad raises Katahdin, I contacted him for some hair and he collected it for me from trees, fences and the ground. His name is Larry Richter and he runs Vallarlane Farms in Craven, Sk. I'm not quite sure how I will clean it but I plan on using it for stuffing in one of my projects for Perfection Found in Nature.
