Weekly Spindle Review - Miss Lucy Tibetan

Sturdy and hardworking are great words to describe this week's spindle

I bought this beauty in a destash on Ravelry and was first drawn to it because of its design and gorgeous woods. I really appreciate when a spindle maker adds their special touch and the detailing on the shaft is stunning. Once I started spinning with it I couldn't stop, it has such a long spin because of its shaping (it's rim weighted) and its perfectly balanced.  The length also made it very comfortable to use.

The point/tip on his spindle is also a detail that was not overlooked.  On many supported spindles, the shaft is so pointy that you have to be careful not to: 
a) stab yourself in the hand
b) break the tip off (makes storing difficult)


This Miss Lucy has a functional point that is strong and I'm not worried about it breaking etc.  This is another great travel spindle.

The sample I spun is from one of my Phat Fibre boxes.  This is Corriedale wool from Curley C'Ewes Fibre and Yarn.  I N-plyed it and got 20 yards of fingering weight yarn.  As mentioned above, I found this spindle to be sturdy and hard working.  It wasn't delicate feeling and I wouldn't be afraid of throwing it in my bag to take to a Fibre Night or a Guild meeting.  I appreciate that.  I like a tool that is beautiful and functional.

When you look at the spin time with this spindle compared to the Russian style spindle last week (29.1 seconds compared to 9.6 seconds), you can see how the extra weight and the shape of the base really makes a difference.  

If you get your hands on a Miss Lucy spindle, you won't regret it
